Funding

Battlesnake is community-funded and maintained by volunteers. All infrastructure runs through Corey Alexander's personal LLC — GitHub Sponsors donations come in, infrastructure bills go out, and Corey covers the difference out of pocket.

Monthly Costs

As of March 2026, it costs roughly $620–660 USD/month to keep Battlesnake running:

ServiceWhat it doesCost (USD)
Google CloudGame engine, web platform, and backend services$442.10
MailgunEmail notifications$94.00
Google WorkspaceEmail and domain for battlesnake.com$34.62
SentryError monitoring and alerting$29.00
GitHubOrganization plan and CI/CD$20.00
Total$619.72

We're actively rewriting the platform in Rust with cost efficiency as a major goal, so these numbers should come down over time.

Sponsors

Battlesnake currently has 19 GitHub Sponsors contributing roughly $120 USD/month. Thank you to everyone who helps keep the lights on!

How to Help

If you'd like to help keep Battlesnake running:

Sponsor Battlesnake on GitHub

Every contribution — no matter the size — makes a difference. Sponsorships go directly toward infrastructure costs.
